we are not a faux-comic book character community. your characters are all original here. we cannot stop anyone from taking ideas from their favorite comic book characters and will not. however, we ask that you come up with some of your own ideas. we don't want to tell people that they can't write who or what they want to. we're simply only going to succeed if people can explore themes, characters and ideas that excite them. having said that, we do ask that you seek help in the ooc community if you're not sure if someone's already doing something similar to your ideas. we love to workshop so let us help!
that brings us to what kind of characters you can bring. your character doesn't have to be a superhero. they can be an anti-hero or someone neutral that just wants to live their life but keeps getting pulled into superhero bullshit. your characters have to be original but that doesn't mean you can't take ideas from comics. you can have a normal guy who is rich and smart that builds his own gear like tony stark or bruce wayne. you can bring a mutated being like someone in x-men. you can bring an alien god like thor and come up with a planet they reigned over. you can bring someone that was bit by something radioactive. you can bring someone that was hit by lightening and developed abilities after. get it? for now we'd prefer that you don't bring big villains. characters that dabble with the gray area of a villain's agenda are absolutely fine. characters that use their powers for not so moral and wholesome things are absolutely welcome! but our big bads and main villains will all be npcs because eventually they'll be defeated and/or thwarted.
powers & abilities
when developing a character, it's essential to remember that a character without weaknesses or flaws can be quite uninteresting. your character can possess various abilities and powers, but it's important to maintain a sense of balance. they shouldn't have an overwhelming combination of super strength, super speed, the ability to fly, a genius-level iq, and an invulnerable suit, only to have a single minor flaw (cough-kryptonite-cough) to balance things out. characters should be vulnerable and capable of being defeated; they shouldn't emerge victorious in every confrontation. while they can certainly win battles, even the greatest superheroes face challenges and setbacks from time to time.
alter-egos
if you'd like to give your character an alter ego name (ie. wonder woman, batman) you can and we encourage it but they must be original. don't actually use batman or wonder woman! your character's alter-egos can have been given to them by the press or they could have named themselves. they can be new personas or they can have a history. that's up to you. the world (government and law enforcement) currently generally frowns at most superheroes and would like to find a way to register and keep track of them but so far every attempt as failed.
backgrounds
this is a community for adults! while we don't focus solely on explicit content (though that's certainly welcome), we encourage a wide range of themes. we invite drama, romance, angst, dark storylines, violence, villainous characters, and complex relationship dynamics. feel free to explore any character background you desire—whether it's dark, mundane, or idyllic. we expect our writers to approach this space with maturity and to understand that sad/violent/etc. narratives will occasionally appear in the forefront. embrace the depth of storytelling.
journals
we currently have minimal requirements for joining. you have to have two posts ready to go! you need to have both an in-character and an ooc post and they should both be backedated. we strongly encourage blurbs but understand if you want to write them with some background after you get going. we do require your ooc post to include the following details:
- character's full name:
- alter ego: (if none, write n/a)
- birthdate & age:
- hometown/planet/etc.:
- abilities & major flaws:
commenting around
we reserve the right to remove any member that we feel is not participating outside of their personal customs. commenting new members, plots and activities should be your #1 priority. checking your fp often isn't hard to do and we don't anticipate it moving so fast that people cannot keep up.
updates & other activity
we do require one update a month. your update can be anything you want! we don't have a word count on narratives or expectations for your updates! in spite of this however, we encourage you update with something substantial so that we can learn about your character and their development. if we do expand and become a bigger place some update rules will change. it's an obvious thing to say but we'd die without activity. intros must be posted within 72 hours.
activities & plots
we will post plots and activities often for you to participate in. plots can involve npcs, supervillains, and more. activities can be anything from your normal rp fp activities to something new. we ask that every member make an attempt to involve their characters in something monthly.
trigger warnings
all updates must include trigger warnings when necessary. if you think something might need one but you're not sure, it's always safest to just include it.
off-site apps
we are an entirely fp / journal based community. off-site apps for chatting ic are banned. anyone who ignores this rule will be removed and banned.
